Konfrontasi Indonesia-Malaysia (1963-1966) dan Relevansi Hubungan Diplomatik di Era Global

Abstract

The Indonesia-Malaysia Confrontation, which took place between 1963 and 1966, is one of the significant events in the history of international relations in Southeast Asia. This conflict was triggered by tensions surrounding the formation of the Federation of Malaysia, which Indonesia regarded as a threat to the political stability and security of the region. This study aims to analyze the dynamics of the confrontation, identify its primary causes, and assess its impact on the diplomatic relations between the two countries. The methodology used in this research includes literature review and analysis of historical documents from the relevant period. The findings indicate that although the confrontation ended with the normalization of relations in 1966, its effects have continued to influence Indonesia and Malaysia's foreign policies and political interactions in the long term. The relevance of bilateral relations between the two countries in the global era is reflected in the importance of collaboration to maintain regional stability and active participation in various international forums. In the global context, constructive and mutually supportive bilateral relations are key to addressing shared challenges such as climate change, free trade, and regional security issues. In conclusion, the Indonesia-Malaysia Confrontation provides valuable lessons on diplomacy, managing differences, and the importance of international cooperation in an increasingly interconnected world
