Abstract

The various forms of resistance by the people of the Indonesian archipelago against Dutch hegemony (the Dutch East India Company or VOC) did not occur only in one region of Indonesia at that time. The entire archipelago participated in the struggle against colonialism. Therefore, the main purpose of this article is to explain in detail the forms of resistance in several regions, such as the Mataram War in Java, the Tondano War in North Sumatra, and the forms of resistance of several kingdoms in South Sulawesi. Data were collected using a literature study method, an approach used in research to gather information from various written sources such as books, scientific journals, articles, and other documents. This paper explains that the Mataram War was a conflict between the King of Java and the Dutch Republic (VOC) in the Philippines from 1628-1629. This conflict had a significant impact on the King and the people of Java, as it not only monopolized trade but also affected the kingdom's internal affairs. The Tondano War was a resistance by the Minahasan people against the Dutch, who wanted to control rice and establish settlements in Minahasa. The resistance of the people of South Sulawesi began because the King of Gowa (Sombayya ri Gowa) strongly opposed the Dutch efforts to dominate South Sulawesi.
